11.) Animal Farm is an allegorical story because it represents the Bolshevik Revolution. The characters of the story represent the different people, groups, and events that took place in the revolution, such as Napoleon representing Joseph Stalin and Boxer representing the working class. The story is about animals who rebel against their cruel farmer and take the farm for themselves to operate, but eventually their leader Napoleon becomes so corrupt that the farm transitions back to the same farm that the animals rebelled against in the first place. This represents the year of 1917, when the citizens of Russia overthrew the monarchy and formed a communist government, but eventually their government became as corrupt as the monarchy they overthrew in the first place.
12. The pigs control the vulnerable animals through propaganda and fear. The way they use propaganda to control the animals is by having Squealer give the animals misleading information. For example, the animals were concerned when they found out that the pigs were reserving the apples and milk for themselves, but then Squealer told the animals, "Comrades!" he cried. "You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. The whole management and organization of this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for YOUR sake that we drink that milk and eat those apples." After Squealer assured the animals that it was for their own good, the animals were relieved and never bothered the pigs about it again. The way that the pigs used fear to control the animals was by the pigs using the violent and aggressive dogs. An example of this was when Napoleon had Snowball chased off the farm by his dogs. After that, he had them growl at the animals so that they would obey his orders.
